The battery passport.
From 18 February 2027 every EV, light transport and industrial battery above 2 kWh placed on the EU market must carry a digital passport. This is a worked model of one, built on the same passport record as everything else on SourceLoop. The data is illustrative.

Every material group declared with mass, share of pack weight, origin country and criticality flag. Recycled content is mass-balance audited.

Cradle-to-gate footprint per kWh, calculated to the PEFCR method and reviewed by an accredited third party.

Chain of custody
Mine site to first owner as a sequence of events, each carrying a named actor, a date and a verification level.

OECD minerals guidance files mapped to Article 48 obligations, with buyer-only evidence held behind encryption.

State of health
Capacity and health values exposed by the battery management system and written back to the passport at service events.

End of life
Second-life qualification, nominated recycler and recovery targets recorded before the pack leaves the factory.
Annex XII, 2031
A pack that can be re-certified is worth more than a pack that can only be shredded.
Modules are individually addressable and re-testable, so a pack that falls below traction-grade capacity can be re-certified for stationary storage rather than shredded.
